Nhiều tu sĩ ở Sittwe đã bị nhà cầm quyền cấm đoán tham gia
lễ hội Phật giáo ngày trăng tròn trong mùa An Cư đã được tổ chức
tại thành phố này trong ngày hôm qua, một tu sĩ cho biết như
trên.
Sư nói "Mỗi
năm có hơn 1,000 tu sĩ tham gia vào lễ hội này, nhưng năm nay
chỉ có 100 tu sĩ tham gia lễ hội bởi vì nhà cầm quyền không cho
phép chư tăng được tham gia.
Tại Sittwe,
thủ phủ tỉnh Arakan, quần chúng đã quen tổ chức nghi lễ Phật
giáo lịch sử ngày trăng tròn trong mùa An Cư tại quảng trường
Winkabar ở Sittwe với con số tu sĩ đông đảo.
Tại buổi lễ,
chư tăng từ các tu viện ở Sittwe sẽ thực hiện một cuộc diễn hành
và cử hành nghi thức tiếp nhận cúng dường của tín chúng như thực
phẩm hoặc các món vật dụng khác.
Nhà cầm
quyền ra lệnh chỉ có hai tu sĩ trong mỗi chùa được tham gia lễ
hội năm nay, và không cho phép toàn bộ tu sĩ còn lại được tham
dự. Vì vậy chỉ một vài nhà sư có cơ hội tham gia lễ hội. Sư nói.
Ở Sittwe có
hơn 300 ngôi tự viện với con số từ 10 đến 1000 tu sĩ thường trú
hoặc tu học trong mỗi ngôi chùa.
Nhà cầm
quyền cũng cấm luôn chương trình biểu diễn của một nhóm nghệ sĩ
trong đêm trăng tròn của lễ hội vì lý do an ninh.
Nhà sư nói "Nhà
cầm quyền luôn luôn lo ngại về an ninh ở Sittwe bởi vì chư tăng
Sittwe có thể thực hiện một cuộc biểu tình phản đối chế độ quân
phiệt bất cứ lúc nào".
Trong ngày
trăng tròn, nhiều nhân viên võ trang được bố trí khắp nơi trong
thành phố, để sẵn sàng đối phó với tin đồn rằng chư tăng đang
chuẩn bị thực hiện một cuộc biểu tình phản đối chế độ.
Một nhân
chứng nói "Hơn 100 nhân viên võ trang được bố trí tại ngả tư
Mizan tại thành phố Sittwe hôm tối thứ Hai. Đó là để sẵn sàng
ngăn chận chư tăng nếu như có sự thực hiện một cuộc biểu tình
vào ngày trăng tròn Mùa An Cư.
Nhiều gia
đình Phật tử tại Sittwe lấy làm bất mãn nhà cầm quyền đã cấm
đoán chư tăng tham gia lễ hội truyền thống Phật giáo như thế",
Sư kết luận như trên.

Many monks
in Sittwe were prohibited by the authorities from attending the
full-moon religious festival that was held in the city
yesterday, said one monk.
He said, “Every year in the past, over 1,000 monks could
participate in the festival, but this year only 100 monks
participated in the festival because the authority did not allow
more monks to do so.”
In Sittwe,
the capital of Arakan State, the people have historically held
the religious festival with a large number of monks on the
full-moon day of Wa Kyut at Winkabar grounds in Sittwe.
At the
festival, monks from monasteries in Sittwe form a procession and
ceremonially accept offerings such as food and other items from
the people.
“The
authority ordered that just two monks from each monastery attend
the festival this year, and did not allow the rest of the monks
to attend the festival. So just a few monks had the opportunity
to participate in the festival,” the monk said.
In Sittwe,
there are over 300 monasteries with anywhere from 10 to 1,000
monks living in residence and studying at each one.
The
authority also did not allow the typical performance by an
artist’s troupe during the evening of the full-moon festival
due to security reasons.
The monk
said, “The authority always worries about security in Sittwe
because monks in Sittwe could stage a demonstration at anytime
against the military government.”
During the
day of the full-moon many army personnel were deployed
throughout Sittwe, in response to rumors that monks were going
to stage a demonstration against the government.
One witness
said, “Over 100 armed personnel were deployed at Mizan
intersection in Sittwe on Monday night. It was intended to block
monks if the staged a demonstration on the full-moon day of Wa
Kyut.”
Many
Buddhist families in Sittwe were disappointed by the authority’s
prohibition on monks attending the traditional religious
festival, he added.
