By L.B.Senaratne, The Sunday Times, Nov 16, 2008   Tin từ Colombo, Tích Lan: Là 1 nước Phật Giáo, Tích Lan luôn luôn áp dụng chủ trương lập trường hoà bình ôn dịu đối với các quốc gia và nhất là ngay trên đất nước họ, và chính sách nhân ái của Tích Lan nên được phát triễn và khuyến khích truyền bá phổ thông tại các nước khác, theo lời Hoà Thượng Asgiri Anunayake. Vị đại trưởng lão hoà thượng Asgiri đã phát biễu về tính yêu chuộng hoà bình của dân tộc Tích Lan trong ngày khai mạc của trường đại học phật giáo quốc tế Tích Lan tại Pallekelle. Ngoài ra trong buổi lễ khai mạc này còn có sự hiện diện của Đại Trưởng Lão Panditha cùng đại sứ NaUy. Ông Tore Hattrem, Đại Sứ NaUy đã nói rằng ông rất là vui mừng trong ngày lễ khánh thành và khai mạc của trường đại học Phật Giáo Quốc Tế Tích Lan sẽ giảng dạy nhiều môn học khác nhau như: ngôn ngữ học, xã hội học, khoa học tự nhiên, nhân quyền, mâu thuẩn của các học thuyết, nhằm nâng cao trình độ hiểu biết của tăng sinh cũng như học sinh bện cạnh môn học chính là Phật Pháp. Cũng theo lời ông Hattrem thì Phật Pháp rất đặc biệt và thực tế trong cả 2 lãnh vực khoa học cũng như giải thích hợp lý rõ ràng minh bạch cho những bí mật của đời sống chung quanh chúng ta. Đức Phật dạy cho chúng ta phải có trách nhiệm cho đời sống chúng ta và môi trường sống chung quanh. Giáo Pháp của Đức Phật về lòng từ và nhân ái giữa người và người cần được thực hành ngày càng nhiều và càng mạnh trong xã hội ngày nay. Trường đại học quốc tế Tích Lan sẽ trang bị những nguyên tắc cơ bản của Phật Pháp cho những trí thức lãnh đạo từ các nước, nhằm mang vào áp dụng trong cộng đồng và xã hội. Những nguyên thủ tương lai tham dự trường đại học này sẽ giúp đỡ cộng đồng xã hội sống hoà bình thân thiện và công dân tuân thủ luật pháp một cách ý thức và triệt để hơn. The university is being funded by the government of Norway. Presiding at the ceremony was the Mahanayake of Malwatta, the Ven. Tibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera, who represented both the Malwatta and Asgiri chapters. The Malwatta Anunayake, Ven, Panditha Niyangoda Vijithasiri, was also present. The Asgiri Anunayake said the Sri Dalada International Buddhist Academy would serve as a centre for training members of the clergy and raising general awareness of the teachings of the Buddha. In his address, Norway’s ambassador Tore Hattrem said he was happy that the academy would be open to students from all backgrounds, and that the curriculum would cover, in addition to teaching the Dhamma, a wide range of subjects, such as languages, social and natural sciences, conflict resolution, and human rights. “Buddhism is unique in its scientific and logical explanation of the mysteries of life,” Mr. Hattrem said. “The Lord Buddha taught us that we are responsible for our own lives and for our environment. The Buddha’s teaching that peace should be practised as a way of life is more relevant today than ever before.” The ambassador described the Sri Dalada International Buddhist Academy as a liberal arts higher education institution grounded on Buddhist principles, local and international in scope, and incorporating monastic and eco-friendly elements. He said it was an honour and a pleasure to be associated with such a unique educational project, and that he appreciated the support and goodwill of the Sri Dalada Maligawa and the University of Peradeniya. The Diyawadana Nilame said that well-educated leaders could transform communities and societies.
